Ben Sherman X Tony Ray-Jones

Tony Ray-Jones (1941-1972) was an English photographer who attempted to communicate the English at leisure, particularly in the 1960s; creating a unique body of work that showed humour, tradition and spirit.  In collaboration with the National Media Museum, who house his archive, Ben Sherman has created a very special selection of t-shirts that capture British nostalgia at its finest.

The 1960s is an iconic period in British history; Beatlemania, The Krays, England winning the World Cup. For Tony Ray-Jones though, he would turn his eye to the lesser known, to the subtler art of capturing the every man. His documentary work has become iconic in its own right – for its realism, wit and playfulness.

Capturing the simple and sometimes humorous quirks of the English, Ray-Jones produced a vast back catalogue; carving a distinct sub-genre within documentary photography. For our exclusive t-shirt collection, we selected three of our favourite images from the archive.
